Shannon visits Lolah!

As I was finishing up quilting on a customer quilt one day in early March, Hollie came over with her cousin and brought along the three quilts she planned on quilting the next day. (It takes time to choose thread and panto graphs as friends of Lolah can appreciate!) Two were baby quilts, made exactly the same with the same backing. She intended them to be gifts for friends expecting.

I had to leave early that day so I helped Hollie and Shannon load the baby quilts, gave them brief instructions and left them on their own.

Flannel baby quilt no 1 was quilted with Bronze Glide thread by Filtec, and 100% poly extra-loft batting; Shannon was brave and/or confident enough to go freehand!

They did really well flying solo... I came home to an empty shop and one quilt done. The next day, they returned to finish the next baby quilt. For this one she chose Filtec's thread called Tar Heel and added ruler work to her freehand.  Not bad for a newbie!! This is Shannon's 12-yr-old daughter Jessica.

Shannon's third quilt is for Jessica who is a lover and rider of horses.

The backing is a beautiful batik; Shannon picked Sea Green Glide thread by Filtec, and Hearts in Bloom panto.

I was surprised at how speedy and in control Shannon was on Lolah. She's a potter and told us she has to work at higher speed on the wheel than most so perhaps it wasn't such a surprise to watch her go.

She started at 1 pm and was done this large quilt at 4:30 pm...

Great control...

A gorgeous quilt for Jessica...

I hear she's getting a few more ready for her next visit. I'm looking forward to it!

A Grandson's Northern Star!

Philip is Odette's oldest grandson and she made him this handsome quilt. He's 14 yrs old and wants to be an engineer. His quilt consists of green and blue batiks; the pattern... an altered Northern Star.

We loaded the length of the quilt horizontally because Odette chose Ebb and Flow pantograph to resemble flames.

Filtec's Glide thread is called Citron...

It has a glow in the dark effect and perfect for a teenager's quilt especially flames!!

I just love to see the back of the quilt when we unload Lolah. Customers admire the back...

A sparkling quilt Odette... in more ways than one!

While Odette was working at Lolah, Hollie was working on an appliqué quilt she put together for Pedvac. More on that later...

The Greater Moncton Quilt Guild's past president issued a challenge to its members: the challenge was to cut and sew a panel. Photos of each participant with her panel were taken in October and the deadline is at our June meeting.

Odette finished work on her panel at our February retreat. She chose to quilt it with Filtec's Glide in Sand and the Halcyon pantograph; we loaded the length horizontally.

Sneak peak...

But that's all you'll get... can't show the final result... it's a secret until June!

Oh... So Modern!!

Lise is on a mission to quilt up tops that she's been working on for a few years. She has booked time on Lolah to quilt them all! How cool is that?

This one is extra special! When she first started quilting on Lolah, we discussed some of her quilts and from that discussion, I purchased a few special pantographs. The one she chose for this quilt is one of those.

It's called Seaside... a 14" panto by Kathie James and sold by Willow Leaf. Lolah having an 18" throat means she can quilt up to 14in... that means this panto would have to be adjusted. Lise was up to the challenge of making it work!

She chose Graphite Glide by Filtec and 80/20 batting for her 92x95 quilt. It proved a great combination.

Rachel and Muriel dropped by the shop and started chatting with Lise... turns out they're related!

A great pattern...

and some steady work...

Quilts of this size require some help to get it done...

This is one project that also requires a little filling in with free hand work. You wouldn't want a half pattern at the edges so we planned our rows accordingly filling in at the end with some free-motion quilting.

What a beauty!!! I bet it will look great on any bed!!

 A great finish!!!

You have a right to be proud Lise!! It's stunning!

Always awesome...
